How to fix Wordpress pagination 404 error
This guide gives you a short overview on how to fix Wordpress pagination 404 error.
I had recently installed Wordpress for my first blog site. I had changed the permalinks to
/%category%/%postname%.html
The pagination links were working perfectly fine before I changed the permalinks and made them more SEO friendly. But these permalinks gave me 404 Error when I was trying to navigate to the next pages.
I tried all the plugins, I could find on the internet to fix this error, but nothing could fix it. (I actually wasted more than 2 days to fix it.)
Here is a simple tweak that will help you, if you are in the same condition as me. This tweak does not need any code changes.
- Login as the admin in Wordpress.
- Go to the Settings tab.
- Go to the Reading tab.
- Change the Blog pages show at most from the default 10 to any number. For example, 5.
- Save the changes.
- View the blog.

If everything goes well, your pagination should be working perfectly fine without you changing any code.
